Love Affair frontman Steve Ellis, best known for singing the band’s cover of “Everlasting Love”, has died aged 76 following complications from a chronic illness.

A statement on his official Facebook account said the British musician died on October 30, surrounded by loved ones.

“After complications from a chronic illness, Steve peacefully left the world on the evening of October 30, 2026, in the presence of his loved ones”, it said.

Musician Paul Weller, best known as the frontman of The Jam, paid tribute on Facebook.

“Our dear mate Stevie Ellis passed on last week. God bless ya Stevie safe travels everlasting love for sure”.

Blues musician Norman Beaker also remembered Ellis, describing him as “a good friend and a great voice”.

“He was a legend with the mod movement, a great character, he will be sadly missed”, Beaker wrote.

Kent-based festival company BCM Entertainments said Ellis “always brought something special to our events”, remembering his voice, timeless songs and performances.

Ellis formed his first band, Soul Survivors, at 15. It evolved into Love Affair, whose members included Rex Brayley, Mick Jackson, Lynton Guest and Maurice Bacon.

Their version of “Everlasting Love”, originally recorded by Robert Knight, topped the UK singles chart and later featured in films including “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” and “Belfast”.

Other hits included “A Day Without Love”, “Rainbow Valley” and “Bringing On Back The Good Times”.
